My paintings are a moment of stillness. I look carefully at the world around me, so there is familiarity, recognition and hopefully calmness in my paintings. Iām interested in the contrast of light and dark, the push and pull, the play of surface and depth. I want my paintings to radiate light, a symbol of hope, that I search for and hold onto. My work is introspective. The slow process of painting in oils demands time in the making and in looking at. Many changes are made, forms are simplified, shifts are made in tone and colour, details are highlighted or diminished. I often start with quick sketches in watercolour, and use these alongside photographs and drawings in the studio.
If you would like to see the paintings in person, I recommend a visit to my studio in South London. Please contact me directly for projects or to inquire about purchasing my work.
